WHAT WE'RE
ABOUT |
|
Located within the WINGS
Center, Imagination Station has access to a variety of teaching
environments not generally available to preschools. Our goal is to bias
children positively to all types of new learning experiences. We want
preschoolers to equate learning with fun, curiosity with adventure, and
questions with exploration.
Our curriculum is inclusive and
multi-cultural, making the children’s transition from home out into the
world at large a smooth and pleasant experience. We practice the Reggio
Emilia method of teaching. Care has been taken to foster learning
through discovery. The environment in Imagination Station is such
that a trial & error process of learning is seen as positive regardless of
the outcome. Much can be learned through incorrect hypothesis. Another
system of learning employed is called
Emergent Curriculum. The idea here is to build on ideas begun by the
children themselves. Children are quicker to learn if they themselves are
invested in the idea.
|
Anything that is
unknown is an
opportunity to
learn rather
than something
to be feared.
|
|
We
believe that if children feel comfortable and safe, they will naturally embark
on their journey of discovery.
|
|
Small ratios and a nurturing
environment are combined with a variety of learning opportunities and a
consistency of teachers and techniques to provide preschoolers with the
optimum in developmental experiences.
Imagination Station is
now accredited through NAEYC, a nationally recognized organization. Our
teachers will help children
resolve conflict by incorporating conflict resolution into a curriculum
that:
1. Keeps children safe.
2. Encourages inner controls.
3. Incorporates children’s ideas.
4. Develops empathy and compassion for others.
5. Practices negotiation skills.
6. Develops social skills.
7. Respects differences.
8. Holds children accountable.
9. Empowers children. We operate on the premise that:
conflict is a daily occurrence
conflict is an opportunity to learn
children have the right to be safe
children have the ability to
resolve their own conflicts |
|
Imagination Station offers a diverse
learning environment, which includes a variety of tools, equipment
specifically suited to early learning, and manipulatives designed to
develop a multitude of skills. Our focus is on kindergarten readiness,
which includes socialization skills and conflict resolution skills along
with academic skills. The whole child is supported in his/her journey. We work towards providing a warm, nurturing
environment that will promote each child’s physical, social, emotional,
creative and intellectual development. |
Building and sustaining the
settings in which individuals can grow and unfold, not “kept in their
place” but empowered to become all they can be, is not only the
task of parents and teachers, but the basis of management and political
leadership - and simple friendship.
